Rank Number One On Google!
Some very important things you must know to rank number one on Google.
This is always an interesting topic and can lead to more questions than answers for a one-page overview.
So, lets break it down. First, there are a few things you need to know before you even start to build your website, let alone rank number one on Google. Or Yahoo for that matter.
This will include choosing a domain name that closely resembles your product or service you plan to sell. This is not extremely critical but it will indeed help you out to rank number one on Google.
Next, and probably one of the most important factors is choosing your keywords for your site, or a particular page topic. Don't over look this step! This is where most people mess up.And believe me if you don't do this correctly you will never rank well. And without ranking well, you will get very little traffic,if any. And of course traffic equates to dollars!
This is also true when it comes to Building Website Links, so make sure you get this right!
I can't outline everything you need to do here about keyword research but however I can show you some very important basics.
First, if you are a beginner, you need to pin point a very small niche market. If you go to broad the big boy's that already dominate that market will eat you alive. Making even the best looking website useless.
Let me show you an example. Lets assume you would like to build a website about fishing. If you where to just use the word fishing as your keyword, you would never stand a chance of ranking well on Google. Or any other search engine for that matter.
I just did a Google search for the term "fishing" and it returned 230,000,000 results! Wow, you would never rank well for that term. So we need to refine it a little more. In other words, focus on a smaller fishing niche.
The term "trout fishing" returned 2,690.000 results on Google. Still way to much competition, but you can see the numbers are going down.
Next, lets try something like "trout fishing in Colorado". That returns 584,000 results in Google. Ah, now we are getting somewhere. That still is a relatively high number but you get the point. You just need to get a small enough niche to rank well.
So, in the above example, you may want to continue to refine your search until you get somewhere under say, 100.000 results. There is no magic number; it just comes down to your own experience. After awhile of doing this you will know were you need to be with relation to your skill level.
One quick note while we are on the subject of doing searches. When you do a search for a term in Google, always put your search term in quotes. Like this: "whatever your term is". Why I heard someone just say! Simple. When you use quotes you are returning all the Websites or WebPages with just that information. If you search without the quotes, you will be returning pages that may have your keyword on it but, may not be relevant.
Example: Lets use the same keyword as above for this example. You could get pages returned with " on our family vacation this year we went camping and had a great time. While we were near the water we decided to try our hand at trout fishing".
Two things happened here that you need to be aware of. One, if you don't use quotes in your search, a page like this will be included in the total amount of websites. This will throw you count off as this page is really not your competition. Two, this page has no relevance to your website your looking to build.
After you find some keyword that look good to you, then you will need to find out if there are people searching for those keywords or keyword phrases.
There are some free tools on line that will allow you to do this. However, I have learned over time that they are not very accurate. You do need to be on the money here or your site will not get any traffic.
Wordtracker is one tool you can use. It offers a paid version and a pay for the day option. One of the better tools I like to use is a tool from Google. Open up an AdSense account with Google. It's free, and you will be using this account later on down the road as you learn more about Internet marketing.
Inside your account you will see a keyword tool. This tool will allow you to enter all your keywords and phrases to see what the daily or monthly search volumes are for your keywords.
What I like about this tool is the information comes directly from Google, so it's about as accurate as your going to get.
The other cool thing with this tool is, it gives the options of finding more keyword and suggestions around "your keywords". This is very helpful, as it can give you ideas that you may not have thought of.
I have a few videos inside of Pro Website Maker that will show you step by step how to perform these tasks, as well as how to run a test to see if your keywords will get any traffic.
Here's another tip to help you rank number one on Google. I see this mistake all the time with beginners and in fact, I made this mistake back when I was just starting out.
Don't attempt to get your "entire site" ranked on the first page or number one. Optimize "each page" separately.
In other words, treat each page as a separate "landing page" with it's own separate keyword or keyword phase.
Do not use more than one or two keywords or keyword phases per page. They must be closely related. And do not over use them in your text. More on that in How To Use SEO!
